The European Beer Star competition has been honouring the best beers in the world since 2004. This year, two experts from IREKS were represented among the professionals.

At the European Beer Star competition in Nuremberg, over 2,350 types of beer from more than 550 breweries from 47 countries were to be tested in order to be judged in around 70 different categories. This job was taken on by around 140 jurors from more than 30 countries – including Kay-Tassilo Pauli, Sales / Distribution Malt at IREKS GmbH and beer sommelier Matthias Hansen, Head of the Malt Company Laboratory at IREKS GmbH. There was a wide variety of beer to choose from: from Franconian smoked beer to international lager, from non-alcoholic pale beer to South German wheat beer.

The impression on site? “It was an incredibly great experience to be there. Firstly, to get in touch with international ‘beer enthusiasts’ and to feel part of them and secondly because we were able to enrich one of the most renowned international competitions with our expertise.” (Matthias Hansen)

The award ceremony will take place on 29 November at BrauBeviale in Nuremberg. We are curious to see who has won the race!
